Pinterest Alternatives – Are There Any?
I just visited some Pinterest alternatives – and signed up with each of their sites to get a quick understanding on how each of those sites operate. The whole issue came to life after I realized that Pinterest is not adding my high quality image bookmarks to their category boards. This is the only way a user can grow on Pinterest. And if this is not possible any more, why would users want to stay with Pinterst and not move on to better Pinterest alternatives.
In today’s article I want to present you with a small selection of Pinterest alternatives. After I spent a few minutes with each site, I will give you my opinion on how it compares to Pinterest and if it is worthwhile leaving the sinking boat…
Pinterest Alternatives – Details
{Pinspire.com} – seems to be an almost exact clone of Pinterest. Meanwhile I already signed up and started pinning there. As I can see from their Popular Board, the content is higher in quality than on Pinterest. What I figured out so far is that you need to engage in pinning on their site and that in turn will give you greater exposure. I will report back in a few days on what I have found out about Pinspire.
{Weheartit.com} – just signed up at their site. You need to download a browser add on (even simpler than on Pinterest) and then click each time you like something on the heart in the top right corner of your browser. — Now that I have played around with it for a few minutes: It is not exactly like Pinterest, as it does not have any category boards or popular boards like Pinterest. It is more like if people are searching for images with tags, then your images will show up. Then I guess people will follow you (or if you have friends). Bottom line, not the same as Pinterest. Good for searching via keyword for great images and sites though.
{Freshbump.com} – I just glanced at it for a few seconds and I think I like it. I don’t know how many visitors this site gets, but from what I saw: You can open your own boards, people can “bump” your images, and there are also a lot of categories available. I think it might be different in the audience from Pinterest. This seems less “housewife” and more grown up. OK – I also signed up on Freshbump.com, just to give you a comparison to the other sites. As good as it looked a few minutes ago, it does not any more. They sadly don’t have a browser extension or a Pin button like Pinterest or Pinspire.com. You need to go to their site, upload the image, add the web address and a description. This makes the whole story too complicated in my mind to really kick off as the next Pinterest alternative!
{Indulgy.com} – I signed up to test how Indulgy.com compares to Pinterest. Similar to as I described in Wehartit.com you install a browser add-on. Then every time you see an image you would like to bookmark, you right click on it and select to which board you would like to save it. It is quite easy as well. What is a shame though, is that again there are no category boards or popular boards where users can browse through other members images. The only time your bookmarked image will show up somewhere to get any exposure is just after posting on their main page. I will see later on when checking with my site stat program if this resulted in any traffic to my site. For now, I’ll say that this is probably not the best Pinterest alternative. I might come back to you later on though if I change my mind.
Pinterest Alternatives – Conclusion
I’d say that the only site that comes close enough to be a Pinterest alternatives is Pinspire.com. Again, I did not spend any reasonable amount of time checking everything out yet. Also only future will tell if there are enough visitors and pinners to be a true Pinterest alternative.
There are only two ways you can go from here: Stay with Pinterest (and with their annoying problems) or move over and try out Pinspire.com. I will try Pinspire.com, the only {Pinterest Alternatives} available right now – as I don’t see any improvement right now on Pinterest. Stay tuned for updates, though.
